Hobbies

What is considered a hobby? According to dictionary.com, a hobby is “an activity or interest pursued for pleasure or relaxation and not as a main occupation.”
Now, that is the definition I had in my head originally; however, some people can take their hobbies to extremes. What do I mean by this? I mean taking it too seriously. Let's take gaming, for example: you could be playing a game and get really serious about it, to the point where it loses its relaxing aspect because you are so focused on completing one level, getting a certain item, or achieving the highest score. This is when, at least for me, you lose the part that makes the hobby fun and relaxing.
Now there is the other side where people do not have hobbies. This surprises me because I see hobbies as a way to pass time when you are bored or need to take your mind off of things. So, when someone does not have a hobby, I wonder, what do they do in their free time? What do they do when they need a break from their regular day-to-day?
Then I started wondering: what do most people consider a hobby for themselves?
For me, most of my hobbies are more or less activity-based. I like crocheting, baking, gaming, photography, and cooking. I also do diamond art, and those usually last me a couple of months because I bounce from hobby to hobby.
There are also less activity-centered ones like reading, writing, or watching TV or a movie. I knew someone who would read articles on their tablet all day, and that was it.
Then that raised another question for me: is it weird or odd to have multiple hobbies?
As I stated above, I have A LOT of hobbies, or at least I think I have a lot. But to meet people who only have one hobby makes me think I can’t make up my mind!
Maybe it’s my undiagnosed ADHD or something, but I like to have multiple means of entertainment for myself because I get bored easily. It also keeps me away from social media for a while because we all know how easy it is to start doom-scrolling and bed rotting.
Another problem I face with having multiple hobbies is indecisiveness about which hobby I want to do. I saw a post recently of a person having a hard time deciding what hobby to do first, and that is me daily!
But that's just me! Thanks for reading,
MD :)
